Kanda Translates: BEYOOOOONDS’ Vitamin ME (KAGOME ONEDAY tie-up song)

The following is the translation of 「ビタミンME」 (Vitamin ME), a new tie-up song by BEYOOOOONDS with KAGOME’s ONEDAY vegetable drink. (Editing credit: Shelliana)

(Original Japanese lyrics)

Takase: Blah blah blah…
I’ve been lecturing for the last 8 hours
on the necessity of fruits and vegetables, as well as vitamins—do you ladies understand?
All: Yes…
Satoyoshi: Say it like you mean it!
All: YES!
Satoyoshi: Professor, please continue.

Takase: You folks are the wonderful VITAMIIIIINS!
Yamazaki: But professor, we’re BEYOOOOONDS
Takase: Yamazaki-san?
Yamazaki: We’re VITAMIIIIINS…
You’ve got some nerve to still call us BEYOOOOONDS at this point!
Maeda: What, me?!
Shimakura: VITAMIIIIINS!
Come on together say!
All: VITAMIIIIINS!

Takase: OK, VITAMIIIIINS
Let’s support people’s health!
Let’s charge up the power of vegetables!

To be cute
To be cool
You need a lot of vitamins!
On busy mornings
As someone in love
Time isn’t the only thing we don’t have enough of!

God, please make my life easier
Make me into a supermodel
That’s impossible, but! There’s only one solution
Each day spent living right stacks up in my favor

Takase: Everyone’s ally! Vitamin C.
The amount you need daily is 100mg!
Satoyoshi: That’s… 6.25 bananas!
Ichioka: That’s surprisingly little!
Maeda: But that’s a lot to eat!

ME ME give me energy
Vitamin ME
I want to be healthy all the time
C C pretty energy
Sparklin’ C
Time isn’t the only thing we don’t have enough of!
We don’t have enough of what we need!

The creative types
The athletic types
Yankii*
Class presidents!
No one’s the same, right?
Everyone’s the protagonist and someone’s supporting character
There’s no such thing as being useless

The path that wears your soles out
The friends you hang out with
You end up unintentionally being biased
Studying, love, fun, and work
You just have to maintain balance

Satoyoshi: There are a lot of vitamins in vegetables
Takase: For example, carrots are full of vitamin A
Kobayashi: Kabocha is full of vitamin E
Nishida: I’m full of potential!

ME ME give me more and more
Vitamin ME
Let’s combine all our different talents!
We Need miracle synergy
Vitamin ME
There’s no such thing as being useless
There’s no such thing as being alone

You promising Boys & Girls
Of course there will be difficulties
Instead of complaining and crying
The most important thing is nutrition and energy

Vitamin A! Vitamin A!
Vitamin C! Vitamin C!
Vitamin E! Vitamin E!

ME ME give me more and more
Vitamin ME
Let’s combine all our different talents!
We Need miracle synergy
Vitamin ME
There’s no such thing as being useless
There’s no such thing as being alone

*The main reason I decided to keep ヤンキー (yankii) as so was the oft-used term ‘delinquent’ doesn’t quite match up one-to-one. The underlying motive for yankii is “the importance of hanging out with friends, and being willing to use violence if people disturb that time,” not necessarily preferring violence or delinquent-like actions in the way English speakers see the word “delinquent.” It can also refer to youth who just dress/accessorize in yankii-like fashion.

This is Hello! Project’s second KAGOME tie-up, following Morning Musume ’14’s promotions in the summer of 2014.
